ENGR 5520: Sensors and Actuators, Overview Part 1

A sensor is a device that changes a physical parameter to an electrical output. As against, an actuator is a device that converts an electrical signal to a physical output. …Sensor generates electrical signals while an actuator results in the production of energy in the form of heat or motion.

How to Read a Schematic

How to read a schematic, follow electronics circuit drawings to make actual circuits from them. This starts with the schematic for a very simple circuit with just some batteries, resistor, switch and an LED. Then it talks about Earth ground and chassis ground. Finally it moves on to a crystal radio amplifier schematic and adds a diode, potentiometer and capacitors.

How To Follow Wiring Diagrams

A wiring diagram is a simplified conventional pictorial representation of an electrical circuit. It shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes, and the power and signal connections between the devices.

How to wire a VFD / variable frequency drive

Learn the basic wiring of variable frequency drives / VFD with our electrician Steve Quist. In this video, we used the very popular Mitsubishi D700 series VFD, showing single phase and three phase wiring instructions. The VFDs showed in the video are the D720S (230V single phase) and the D720 (230V three phase). We strongly recommend using a certified electrician to set up your VFDs. If you are doing this on your own, make sure you wear protective gear and take proper precautions.

Motor Control 101

This video is an introduction to how 3-phase motors are typically controlled in commercial and industrial applications. In addition to motor control, this video addresses the ways to protect the motor and the wire supplying it with power.
