Discover: History of MakerBot

In this video from early 2012, MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis shares the history of our first three years. Since our first product, the Cupcake CNC, we’ve released three machines, including our most powerful and refined desktop 3D printer yet, the MakerBot Replicator 2. As we’ve grown to meet the outstanding demand of the bold explorers around the world using MakerBot technology, we have expanded to well over 150 employees. MakerBot Discover: Support Material

When you’re designing a 3D model for printing on a MakerBot Desktop 3D printer it’s always important to consider printability — or how successful a model will be when 3D printed. There are many factors that go into determining printability including the steepness of an overhang and the amount of surface area that touches the build plate. In many cases there are ways to improve printability by modifying a 3D model or by adding single-material break-away support or peel-away rafts.
