Elon Musk didn’t like his kids’ school, so he made his own small, secretive school without grade levels

Elon Musk didn’t like his kids’ school, so he started his own, the inventor and entrepreneur said in an interview on Beijing Television. The school is called Ad Astra – which means “To the stars” – and is small and relatively secretive. It doesn’t have its own website or a social media presence. Christina Simon, who writes about private elementary schools in Los Angeles , has done some digging around Ad Astra.   She says she’s been in contact with a mother whose child attends Musk’s school. The mother told Simon that the relatively new Ad Astra School is “very…

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MHRD and Focus States for TEQIP-III

The Union HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar signed MoU for Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (Phase- III) with 18 States and 1 UT in New Delhi today. The Union HRD Minister expressed his happiness on the occasion as the programme is implemented in assistance with World Bank in a sustainable way to improve over all standard and quality of technical institutes. The Union Minister emphasised that innovation and research can happen only when physical infrastructure and trained manpower is available, and therefore this programme is vital for much needed technical up-gradation in education institutes.   For implementation of the project,…

MIT: Drones that drive

CSAIL team’s system of quadcopters that fly and drive suggest another approach to developing flying cars.     Being able to both walk and take flight is typical in nature — many birds, insects, and other animals can do both. If we could program robots with similar versatility, it would open up many possibilities: Imagine machines that could fly into construction areas or disaster zones that aren’t near roads and then squeeze through tight spaces on the ground to transport objects or rescue people.   The problem is that robots that are good at one mode of transportation are usually…

COEP RSC: BY THE POWER OF DEADSHOT

In August, Japan may fall in love with a new robot from India. And no, it’s not Rajinikanth   Deadshot looks more like a portable table than a highly advanced robot. Its metal frame fitted with wires, motors, and sensors only accentuate its odd appearance. Yet, beneath the haphazard network of cables, lies a champion bot that can toss a frisbeeshaped disc and make it land on designated targets with pinpoint accuracy. In fact, Deadshot is so accomplished at the task, he beat others like him in the national finals of Robocon, a robotics competition organised three months ago in…

‘Need to establish legal infras for India to take lead in artificial intelligence’

Titled ‘Leveraging artificial intelligence and robotics for sustainable growth’, the study highlighted how an early public sector interest could trigger a spurt of activity in the AI field in India, instead of waiting for technology to reach a level where regulatory intervention becomes necessary.   India should take lead in establishing a legal infrastructure on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to become a front runner, according to a ASSOCHAM-PwC joint study.   Titled ‘Leveraging artificial intelligence and robotics for sustainable growth’, the study highlighted how an early public sector interest could trigger a spurt of activity in the AI…

Technical education must be imparted in regional languages:

Technical education should be imparted in regional languages to provide a level playing field to the rural youths whose lack of knowledge of English put them at a disadvantage in comparison to their urban counterparts, Union minister Vijay Sampla said today.   “Youths in remote areas who have obtained technical education can’t compete with their counterparts in cities.   Local language plays a vital role in this,” Sampla said.   A student in suburban areas or rural areas cannot understand English, which is same as any other foreign language to him, the Union minister of state for social justice said….
