Open-cell Aluminum foam compression simulation using 3-D Voronoi diagram model

3-D Voronoi diagram model used to simulate the compression response of open-cell Aluminum foam core material, which is loaded in a sandwich structure. 3-D Voronoi model had been carried out to accurately represent the real characteristics of Aluminum foam. Model was enhanced by increasing number of foam cells relative to unit volume, taking into account not only plastic properties of material forming of Voronoi struts but also plastic properties. Adaptive Nonlinear Structures for Flow Regulation

Exploiting structural instabilities for the design of a shape-changing air duct. The structural instabilities and elastically-nonlinear behaviour of post-buckled panels are used to design an adaptive air inlet. The device comprises a shape-changing post-buckled composite component that can adapt its configuration in response to varying operating conditions. The inlet aperture is regulated without external mechanisms for actuation and only relies on the pressure field imposed on the structure by the surrounding fluid. Background: Computational modeling is increasingly useful for analyzing medical implants used in orthopedic medicine, such as joint replacements implanted into more than 3 million people worldwide each year. However, it is rarely used for predicting clinical outcomes due to lack of available clinical data suitable for use as model inputs and the difficulty of achieving correspondence between model predictions and clinical performance.
