SparkFun Ecosystem for Photon!

Particle’s IoT (Internet of Things) hardware development kit, the Photon, provides everything you need to build a connected project. Particle has combined a powerful 120 Mhz ARM Cortex M3 microcontroller with a Broadcom Wifi chip in a tiny thumbnail-sized module called the PØ (P-Zero). The Photon Kit includes a Photon with headers, a shiny white mini-breadboard, a USB-micro cable, and a couple of extra surprises to help you start building right away.

SparkFun Ardumoto Motor Driver Shield Kit

Robots are fun and Arduinos are easy, so wouldn’t it be nice if there were a kit that included everything you need to get your Arduino device set up to control a simple two motor circuit buddy? The SparkFun Ardumoto Shield Kit is perfect for any interested robot enthusiasts and includes an Ardumoto Shield as well pairs of tires, motors, connectors, and wires. And, of course, it’s all stuffed in a classic SparkFun red box (which may come in handy as a robot chassis).

SparkFun ZX Distance Sensor

The ZX Distance and Gesture Sensor is a touchless sensor that is capable of looking for simple gestures. The very smart people at [XYZ Interactive](http://www.gesturesense.com/xyz/) have created a unique technology that allows for simple infrared beams to be used to detect an object’s location in two dimensions. That means that not only can you detect gestures or had movements over the board, but you can also use it to determine distance, or how far away an object is from the sensor. The board communicates over I2C or UART. Want to see it in action? Good, we have a video for…

SparkFun LilyPad Pixel Board

We know you love adding color to your e-textiles, adding the LilyPad Pixel Board to your project will only make it better. The pixel board is equipped with a WS2812B which is actually an RGB LED with a WS2811 built right into the LED! Several of these breakouts can be chained together to form a display or an addressable string.   LilyPad is a wearable technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads to allow them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and…

SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor

The SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor is a simple breakout for measuring the moisture in soil and similar materials. The soil moisture sensor is pretty straightforward to use. The two large exposed pads function as probes for the sensor, together acting as a variable resistor. The more water that is in the soil means the better the conductivity between the pads will be and will result in a lower resistance, and a higher SIG out.

SparkFun Benchmark: pcDuino Acadia

The LinkSprite Acadia is a high performance single board computer from the makers of the pcDuino. In this video we benchmark the CPU speed and power consumption of the Acadia and compare it to several other single board computers.

SparkFun Redboard and Inventor’s Kit for Photon

The SparkFun Photon RedBoard, to put it simply, is a WiFi/Microcontroller development board in the Arduino form-factor for the Photon. It’s easy to use, it’s powerful, and it’s connected to the cloud. With the best support, potential, and performance the Photon RedBoard provides you with an IoT device with a powerful 120 Mhz ARM Cortex M3 and built-in WiFi connectivity. Imagine blowing up a Photon into the shape of an Arduino and while keeping its wireless and ARM Cortex M3 capabilities, the result is this board!

SparkFun Oktoberfest B.A.C. Data Lager!

We realize that Oktoberfest really starts tomorrow (not next week!), but we’ve been hard at work to create something worthy of the world’s largest beer festival. Engineer Shawn shows off our latest invention: the Beer Lager! Based on the Particle Photon, the Beer Lager alerts the user to take frequent breathalyzer tests, computes their BAC, and displays it in a most glorious fashion.

SparkFun Freesoc Video Game Chair

SparkFun engineer Mike hord shows off both his engineering and video game skills with this awesome project centered around the Freesoc2 development board. Follow along to learn how you can take the Freesoc, an arduino, and a few load cells and make the video game chair of your dreams!

SparkFun BME280 Atmospheric Sensor Breakout

The SparkFun BME280 Atmospheric Sensor Breakout is the easy way to measure barometric pressure, humidity, and temperature readings all without taking up too much space. Basically, anything you need to know about atmospheric conditions you can find out from this tiny breakout. The BME280 Breakout has been design to be used in indoor/outdoor navigation, weather forecasting, home automation, and even personal health and wellness monitoring.

Touch Potentiometer Desk Lamp

The SparkFun Touch Potentiometer, or Touch Pot for short, is an intelligent linear capacitive touch sensor that implements potentiometer functionality with 256 positions. It can operate as a peripheral to a computer or embedded microcontroller or in a stand-alone capacity. The Touch Potentiometer provides both a dual-channel analog and PWM output for direct control of other circuitry. Configurable analog and PWM transfer functions support a wide variety of applications.

Raspberry Pi Starter Kit

There’s a lot of Raspberry Pi information going around lately. Whether it’s Pi A, A+, B, B+, or Pi 2 B, any forum will have thousands of people giving all the answers possible to a problem. Though most methods work for any version, it can be tough to decide which information to choose. The Raspberry Pi 2 Starter Kit is a great way to gain a solid introduction to the small, credit-card sized computer. With this kit you will be able to get your Raspberry Pi 2 connected through our SparkFun Pi Wedge to a breadboard and, by utilizing the…

SparkFun BLE Nano!

The BLE Nano from RedBearLab is the smallest Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy (BLE) development board in the market and with the included MK20 USB in this kit you’ll be able to deploy firmware to BLE Nano even easier. At each BLE Nano’s core is a Nordic nRF51822, an ARM Cortex-M0 SoC plus BLE capable of running at 16MHz with ultra low power consumption. The RedBearLab BLE Nano also supports numerous different wireless devices running iOS 7/8, Android 4.3 or higher, and Windows Phone 8.1.

SparkFun Thermocouple Marshmallow Stick

This is a stainless steel, Type-K Thermocouple probe. A thermocouple works by taking two wires made of dissimilar metals, connecting them at the two ends, and making a temperature gradient between one end and the other (a ‘hot’ end and a ‘cold’ one). Once this is achieved, a voltage potential is formed and current flows. One junction is held in the environment where the temperature of interest exists, this is known as the hot junction. The other junction, referred to as the cold junction, can typically be found in ICs that specialize in reading the temperatures detected by the thermocouple…

SparkFun ESP8266 Dev Board

This is the SparkFun ESP8266 Thing Dev Board – a development board that has been solely design around the ESP8266, with an integrated FTDI USB-to-Serial chip. The ESP8266 is a cost-effective, and very capable WiFi-enabled microcontroller. Like any microcontroller, it can be programmed to blink LEDs, trigger relays, monitor sensors, or automate coffee makers, and with an integrated WiFi controller, the ESP8266 is a one-stop shop for almost any Internet-connected project. To top it all off, the ESP8266 is incredibly easy-to-use: firmware can be developed in Arduino, and uploaded over a simple, serial interface. The ESP8266 Thing Development Board breaks…
