Chemical Tests for Nitrite

Nitrites are inorganic compounds contain nitrite ion in which nitrogen is bonded to two oxygen atoms. It is a symmetric anion with equal nitrogen – oxygen bond length and O-N-O bond angle of approximately 120 °C. Upon protonation, nitrite ion produces weak nitrous acid, which is unstable.

This video explains how to test the presence of nitrite ion in a given salt.
