Faculty Development Programme
Faculty Development Programme sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Embedded Systems, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Automation, Image Processing. Robotics is an all-time popular science in various technical institutes at national and international level. A vast range of robots is being taught in these classrooms. Those are ranging from simple microprocessor-based small size wheeled robots up to advanced Industrial Robot Arm or sometimes even a Humanoids. To enhance the employability and the competency of the students, the robotics teachers must know the industrial practices and the cutting edge technologies in this area. The present FDP was an attempt to fulfill this need through theory, demonstrations and industrial visits.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. Some of the activities computers with artificial intelligence are designed for include:
- Speech recognition
- Learning
- Planning
- Problem solving
Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that aims to create intelligent machines. It has become an essential part of the technology industry. Research associated with artificial intelligence is highly technical and specialized. The core problems of artificial intelligence include programming computers for certain traits such as:
- Knowledge
- Reasoning
- Problem solving
- Perception
- Learning
- Planning
- Ability to manipulate and move objects
Knowledge engineering is a core part of AI research. Machines can often act and react like humans only if they have abundant information relating to the world. Artificial intelligence must have access to objects, categories, properties, and relations between all of them to implement knowledge engineering. Initiating common sense, reasoning and problem-solving power in machines is a difficult and tedious approach.
Machine learning is another core part of AI. Learning without any kind of supervision requires an ability to identify patterns in streams of inputs, whereas learning with adequate supervision involves classification and numerical regressions. Classification determines the category an object belongs to and regression deals with obtaining a set of numerical input or output examples, thereby discovering functions enabling the generation of suitable outputs from respective inputs. Mathematical analysis of machine learning algorithms and their performance is a well-defined branch of theoretical computer science often referred to as computational learning theory.
Image processing is a method to perform some operations on an image, in order to get an enhanced image or to extract some useful information from it. It is a type of signal processing in which input is an image and output may be image or characteristics/features associated with that image. Nowadays, image processing is among rapidly growing technologies. It forms core research area within engineering and computer science disciplines too.
The program aimed at giving a concise introduction to Signal, Processing, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition algorithmic techniques, with balance coverage among theory, hands-on, applications, and standards. It would render a wide coverage of 1-D through 2-D and 3-D signal processing, supported by an essential foundation for a full understanding of the image and pattern recognition concepts that follow.
Expert Guidance for Robocon
Team Robolab has been mentors to the COEP RSC team. Robot Study Circle (known as RSC) is a community of students guided by faculty members, industrial experts & alumni, who find pleasure in Robotics. It is a platform for like-minded people to come together, share knowledge and strive to create futuristic automated machines.
The objective of Robot Study Circle is to build international quality Robots, that will prove to be useful in a variety of environments, especially in the industries.
Achievements of Robot Study Circle:
- Design & Manufacturing of Robot for Pune Police Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad
